Relationship Advice - How To Improve Intimacy
A relationship requires intimacy. I don't think anyone would argue with that. However, what intimacy means to women and what it means to men can be two different things. The ironic .....
Advances in Bipolar Disorder Research

Until recently, bipolar disorder research had not progressed as far forward as other mental-health issues, such as schizophrenia or depression. It was not until recently, as scientists and researchers started investigating the manic aspect of the disease, that bipolar disorder research came to be a new diagnosis to reckon with.

Serious Brain Dysfunction

More than one percent of all Americans in a given year, or 2,300,000 people, suffers from depressive symptoms and will benefit from bipolar disorder research. Chemical imbalance, as well as problems with the structure or functioning of the inner workings of the brain, creates extreme mood swings in sufferers of bipolar disorder. Currently, treatment consists of drug therapy and psychotherapy, both of which require ongoing insight from the patient and healthcare professionals.

Starts Early

You Are What You Think
One of the first things you will find that God will start to do with you if you have decided to enter into a true sanctification process .....
Latest bipolar disorder research suggests that many people suffer from the disease as early as in their late teens or early adulthood. This disorder is not always caught sooner because episodes of mania (extreme happiness) may be isolated, as well as separated from periods of major depression. In fact, the patient may exhibit an extended period of normalcy between manic and depressive episodes. Periods of stress can escalate outbreaks, and at least 20 percent of sufferers will commit suicide if not treated effectively.

NIMH

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) is the leading mental health research facility in the world. Doctors and specialists at NIMH conduct surveys, studies, genetic testing, causes, and investigations in bipolar disorder research to better gain an understanding and course of treatment. The NIMH' s goal, among others, is to better determine a cause, treatment, and cure for the disease.

Different Disorders

The DMH-IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th edition) has separated bipolar disorder into different categories: Bipolar I, Bipolar II, Cyclothymic, and schizoaffective. Bipolar disorder research finds that some of these disorders are very closely related, and many are hard to differentiate. Because of misdiagnoses, many patients go untreated for years. Because there are no definitive tests to diagnose the illnesses, physicians, therapists or psychiatrists must rely on symptoms, examples of manic and depressive episodes as reported by patient and others, and family history, when available.

Genetics

There is evidence, based on studies done with families, twins, and adoptees, that genetics definitely play a part in bipolar disorder research. NIMH started a genetics initiative in 1989, studying families with two or more siblings having bipolar disorders. Thanks to this initiative, there are major research facilities worldwide that are trying to isolate DNA for susceptibility of bipolar diseases. Other studies are occurring in Israel, America, and the Azores; information is already being collected from Australia and Sweden.
